Mia Alpina Fügen (AT)

https://www.mia-alpina.at

50 minutes drive from Innsbruck airport. You can get to it on public transport from Zurich, just take the train to Jenback where the hotel will arrange a transfer for you (40EUR) or you can connect onto a local train up the valley and get off in Fügen, where the hotel will collect you for free.

Highlights

  • Everything in the hotel feels very modern and recently renovated. It’s a stylish hotel. Some of the renovated rooms (check the room category) are really fantastic.

  • The bar in the evening was a nice place to spend time and enjoy a few drinks.

  • The kids club was excellent. The staff seemed fantastic and our kids were happy to go, which isn’t always the case.

  • Good e-bike and trailer rental

Less strong for

  • The evening meal was more buffet than we’d normally like. Some evenings were only buffet, and the other 2 evenings only one course was served. Service for drinks was also a bit slow.

  • Fügen is good for kids, but not on a par with Serfaus.

  • The town doesn’t seem to have much going on (perhaps the hotel is just too far from the centre?)

  • The lift pass included in summer is a bit restrictive. It’s valid for either 3 or 6 consecutive days and only includes one round trip up and down each day. It’s still worth a few hundred euros and it’s not the hotel’s fault (it’s the lift ticket for the valley)

Food

Overall the food was good. There was almost constantly some sort of salad bar or snacks available. Lunch was generally quite good, mostly buffet but with one dish served freshly and once lunch had finished you could still make grilled sandwiches.

We didn’t love the set-up of the dinner. The quality was good, but we prefer less buffet for the adults. But that is no criticism of the quality.

Kids Club

I don’t really know what went on in the kids club, but our kids were happy enough to go and the staff seemed to learn their names very quickly, despite not being in there that much.

They do a kids magic show one evening which is very good.

Kids club is without adults, although parents can join for an hour after breakfast each morning as a settling-in period. Open 9am - 9pm.

Amenities

These were excellent

  1. Indoor play area for kids with trampolines, soft play, bobby cars, a carousel...

  2. Nice indoor/outdoor swimming pool. Triple slide for the kids. A more advanced flume would have been nice, but we still got lots of use on the triple slide.

  3. Great outdoor playground with climbing frames, bouncy castle and track for riding bikes and scooters. Oh, and pony rides.

There is a charming adults-only spa with rooftop pool, 2 saunas and a steam room. This was also open till 10pm one evening. No infusions, sadly.
