Time from Zurich: 4-5 hours drive or 4 hour EC train direct to Jenbach and the hotel will pick you up from the station for free (10 min drive)


Food 

  • Kids dinner starts at 6

  • Generally fine with us going to dinner at 8

  • All inclusive so wine etc doesn’t cost extra. Some cocktails also included 

  • Quality good, not brilliant but kids buffet big hit with Xavi (lots of vegetables and pasta) . I’d say adults meal was a bit variable - some nights v good, others a bit “blah” 

Kids club 



  • No parents allowed to stay in the club (good) 

  • Need to book til 9pm the day before but seemed fairly relaxed about this in practice

  • Xavi happy - loads of hot wheels toys. Didn’t seem particularly hectic. Took the kids outside every morning at 10am. 

Pool & Amenities 

  • big flume and a triple slide. 

  • Really good toddler pool with mini slide and things for them to play with. 

  • Hot tub (for everyone) 

  • Riding school, Xavi could do a taster pony ride.

  • Looks like in summer they have a private beach on the lake and go-karting

  • There is a roof-top infinity pool but in winter it’s not really heated enough and you have to walk through ice and snow to get to it, so not a huge hit. But i can imagine it’s great in Summer!

Recommendations and other Notes 

  • ask for a table in Seeblick or Garden room (definitely not Zirbenstube!) 

  • We were in Achenseesuite. On the ground floor some rooms in the haus am teig are right on the thoroughfare so not v private (i think these are the garden suites). 1st floor has limited view, 2nd floor probably better.

Märchenhotel Braunwald (CH)

Car-free village - have to take the funicular from Lindthal. They will take you luggage for you and bring to your room, so pretty easy. They send you a pass for all public transport in Glarus so also free.  Food  Good, but not excellent. 3 choices at dinner - generally one meat, fish and vegetarian but one night they did one meat, one veggie and then one vegan, and that was a bit of a flop. Salad buffet was fine, but no real variation. Breakfast buffet was good quality food, but not the most impressive selection. Eggs to order and brought to your table though, which was good.  The dining room is really impressive without any real “bad” tables. All have a view and there’s enough space between tables that it’s not crowded.  After the storytime each evening a train drives the kids into their dining room. Hotel Laurentius Fiss (AT)

  Time from Zurich: 3 hour drive or train to Landeck-Zams and 2 buses up the hill. You could probably find a taxi company to drive you up to Fiss.  https://www.familienhotel-laurentius.com/ Food Good to very good. Lunch buffet was not so exciting/often left-overs from the night before but there was continuous food and cakes in the afternoon were nice.  First table they gave us was right in thoroughfare but they moved us to a nice window table on request  Kids buffet starts at 6 Kids Club  Had a really nice big play area indoors for parents and kids, including small soft play, games consoles and lots of ride-on cars.  Separate kids club without parents.
